Azerbaijan — KYC Document Guide
Quickest path
Azerbaijani passport (biometric or standard) + bank statement PDF from your online banking (ABB, Kapital Bank, AccessBank, PASHA Bank, etc.).
Download the statement as PDF — do not screenshot.
Identity documents
- Biometric passport — best option.
- Standard passport — accepted.
- Azerbaijani ID card (Şəxsiyyət vəsiqəsi) — accepted. Upload both sides.
Proof of address
- Bank statement PDF — recommended. Download from your online banking portal or mobile app. Must show your full name, full address (street, house number, city), and be dated within the last 3 months.
- Utility bill — electricity (Azərenerji), gas (Azəriqaz), or water. Must show full address with street and house number — city alone is not enough.
- Government letter — tax notice or other official correspondence with your complete residential address.
All documents: issued within 3 months, full name and full address (street + house number) visible.
The address problem in Azerbaijan
The most common rejection reason for Azerbaijani clients is an incomplete address.
Many Azerbaijani utility bills and letters show only a city or region — for example, “Baku” or “Yasamal”. SumSub requires the full address including the street name and house number.
If your document shows only a city or district, SumSub will reject it with an address error — even if everything else is correct.
What SumSub needs on the document:
- Your full name (matching your account)
- Street name and house number (e.g. Nizami küçəsi 12)
- City
- Issue date within the last 3 months
- Name of the issuing organisation (bank, utility provider, government body)
What does not work:
- City only (e.g. Baku)
- District/rayon only (e.g. Yasamal)
- Any document without a street address
Bank statement — preferred alternative
If your utility bill shows only a city without a street, use a bank statement instead.
Online banking portals typically print your registered address in full when generating a statement. This usually includes the street name and house number that your utility bill may omit.
How to download a statement
- Log in to your bank’s online portal or mobile app
- Go to Statements or Account history
- Select the last 1–3 months
- Download as PDF
- Before uploading, check that the PDF shows your full address with street and house number
If the bank statement also shows only a city, call your bank and ask them to issue a certified address confirmation letter — this is a standard service at most Azerbaijani banks.
Common issues in Azerbaijan
City-only address rejected. A document that shows only Baku or a district name without a street is not sufficient. SumSub requires street + house number. Switch to a bank statement PDF or request a certified letter from your bank.
Utility bill without a street name. Azərenerji and Azəriqaz bills sometimes omit the street. Check your bill before uploading — if there is no street name, use your bank statement instead.
Screenshots rejected. A screenshot of your banking app is not a document. Download the actual PDF statement from your bank’s portal.
Old documents. Only documents from the last 3 months are accepted. Download a fresh statement right before uploading.
Name mismatch. Make sure your full name on the document matches your account name exactly. Transliteration differences (Azerbaijani vs Latin spelling) can cause rejections.
